My commute is often an hour or more when I need to be in-office with my Chicago-based clients. Whether I am driving or taking the train, I love to listen to podcasts. There are several I enjoy because they are focused on empowering women to succeed and grow in their lives, careers, and businesses. A few of my favorites include: The SimplyBe. Podcast with Jessica Zweig, Climbing in Heels with Rachel Zoe, The Leader Assistant with Jeremy Burrows, Wiser Than Me with Julia Louis-Dreyfus, and Dear FoundHer with Lindsay Pinchuk.

I want to share my experience listening to Dear FoundHer today on my commute. About a year ago, I was introduced to Lindsay Pinchuk through my client Jessica Zweig when Lindsay was a guest on Jessica’s SimplyBe. Podcast. This Dear FoundHer episode was a conversation between Lindsay and Corinne Morahan. Corinne was sharing her story of starting and growing her business, Grid & Glam. There were many excellent take-aways for anyone on a start-up journey. But something Corinne said when she was talking about growing her team resonated with me so strongly, I was yelling at the top of my voice (while alone in my car), “That’s what I’m talking about!”

Corinne was telling how she struggled to move her business forward because she was spending too much time and energy working IN her business, rather than ON her business. Corinne explained she knew she needed to get out of the day-to-day operational challenges and shared the ways her business continues to expand because she is now working ON the things she loves to do for her business. I highly recommend listening to the whole episode to get all the amazing insights from Corinne on her journey. It is a powerful story.

I want to circle back to what Corinne said about her struggle to get out of working IN her business. This is something I hear from executives at all stages of their business. These leaders know they would have more impact if they were not INvolved in the day-to-day administrative and operational tasks of the business, and could focus ON things like vision, strategy and innovative initiatives that will actually move the business forward.

As a start-up entrepreneur, you often say yes to everything that comes your way and the meetings pile onto your calendar and you are back-to-back all day; you feel like you need to answer every inquiry that comes into your inbox; you are drafting all your communications and social media posts; you are also recruiting and hiring, and more. There comes a point when doing or managing all of these things on your own is not sustainable.

How do you get out of the day-to-day? It takes having the right people, in the right roles who are experts in these administrative and operational challenges.

This is where we can help you. The team at onHand Executive Services work with our clients to get them OUT of working IN their businesses.

Are you working IN your business? Do you want help to work ON your business? Get in touch to learn how we can help you.
